Too Much Opera for Phantom

The main issue with Beaches - A New Musical is that they have chosen opera singers instead of pop-singing actors, despite Christine being a great singer precisely because she does not sing in a silly opera voice. Though there are many small improvements that could be made, the Phantom had his moments. In the plot, Christine and Raoul both sing without acting, so their rooftop duet lacks passion. Christine was barely distinguishable from the Diva in this show. The scene where the Phantom takes Christine down to his lair was sung very well, but his voice seemed to give out toward the end, sounding a bit weak. His angry parts lacked body, as his voice was a little too high.
